MERCED, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino women's soccer sits atop the CCAA table after defeat UC Merced 2-1 Sunday afternoon in a conference contest at Bobcat Field.
With the win, the Coyotes move to 5-2-3 overall, and stay unbeaten in CCAA play at 4-0-2.
CSUSB scored first on a marker in the 15th minute from junior
Maya Alston deposited a
Raylene Alcaraz feed for the first goal of the game. Alcaraz fed a pass in from the right side of the box, and Alston fired a shot off the crossbar and in to put the Yotes ahead 1-0.
UC Merced found the equalizer in the 76th minute, ending CSUSB goalkeeper
Bella Ortiz's shutout streak at 536 minutes. It was the first goal the Coyotes have conceded in CCAA play all season.
The Coyotes would get the last laugh however, as they scored the game-winner in the 84th minute. In a play that mirrored Alston's first half marker, freshman
Yesenia Flores fed a pass into the box from the right wing that found the foot of junior
Jordan Goldstein, who beat the UC Merced keeper low on the short side for her first goal as a Coyote.
In net, Ortiz stopped four shots to earn her fourth victory of the season. Â
Next up, the Coyotes will return home to face Menlo College for the first time in program history on Friday afternoon. Kickoff from Premier Field is slated for 3 p.m.
