POMONA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team lost to the #11 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos Thursday evening at Kellogg Arena by the score of 68-52.
With the defeat, the Coyotes fall to 7-7 and 5-4 in CCAA play.
CSUSB started off the game on a 7-2 run, but the Broncos held a 21-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, aided by an 11-for-12 (91.7 percent) mark at the free-throw line. Senior Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.) led the way with nine points in the quarter, all off of 3-pointers.
The Coyotes went on an 8-0 run in the second quarter to briefly retake the lead, led by baskets from Jaushlynn Ruffin (Lynwood, Calif.) and Citlali Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.). However, CSUSB would trail 34-28 at the half after a late Bronco surge.
The third quarter proved to be a challenge offensively for both sides, with the Broncos outscoring the Yotes 12-9. Despite another setback, the Yotes only trailed by nine heading into the final period.
CSUSB kept it close until midway through the fourth quarter when Cal Poly Pomona pulled away.
Saidoff led all scorers in the game with 23 and is now just three points away from 1,000 career points.
Up next, CSUSB faces Cal Poly Pomona again, this time at home, on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
