Women's Basketball Defeated by #11 Cal Poly Pomona

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team suffered a 65-55 defeat at the hands of Cal Poly Pomona Saturday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Coussoulis Arena.

With the defeat, the Coyotes drop to 7-8 overall on the season and 5-5 in the CCAA.

Senior Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.) hit a major milestone on the first Coyote bucket of the game, as her 3-pointer 57 seconds into the game gave her 1,000 points in her collegiate career. She entered CSUSB last season with 792 points in her first two seasons at Moorpark College, and came into Saturday's game just three points shy of 1,000. Saidoff would go on to be CSUSB's leading scorer in the first quarter with six points, and the Yotes led 20-18 at the end of one.

Cal Poly Pomona pulled ahead in quarter number two as the Coyote offense went quiet. CSUSB shot just 28.6 percent (4-of-14) in the quarter and was outscored 16-11 to go into the locker room behind by three at 34-31. Saidoff posted six more points in the quarter to lead the Yotes.

Cal Poly Pomona held CSUSB scoreless for over four minutes to start the second half to take command of the contest. Redshirt sophomore Jaushlynn Ruffin (Compton, Calif.) posted five points in the period for the Coyotes, but the team combined for just three made basketball and trailed by 11 headed to the fourth.

The Coyotes couldn't complete the comeback in the fourth quarter, despite outscoring the Broncos 14-13. Ruffin chipped in half of CSUSB's 14 points in the quarter.

Saidoff and Ruffin each posted 15 points to lead CSUSB in the defeat. Junior Arianna Harper (Los Angeles, Calif.) had a season high offensively for the Coyotes with 10 points off the bench.

The Coyotes will be back in action on Thursday, facing Chico State on the road. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
