Women's Soccer Blanks #25 CUI

Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team upset #25 Concorida University Irvine 1-0 Saturday morning in non-conference action at Premier Field.

With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 1-1-0 overall on the season.

CUI had a narrow 4-3 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes, but neither team found the back of the net in half number one.

Twelve minutes into the second half, the Coyotes broke the ice. In a one-on-one battle down the right wing, junior Ruby Segura (Cathedral City, Calif.) drew a penalty kick when she was taken down by the on-charging goalkeeper. Senior Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) made no mistake with the PK, sliding it past the keeper low to the left side for a 1-0 lead.

At the other end of the pitch, junior goalkeeper Ryan Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.) was dialed in from the start in her first collegiate appearance. She made a handful of top-notch stops, finishing the day with seven total saves for her first collegiate win and clean sheet.

CUI finished the contest with a 15-10 shot advantage and 6-4 advantage in corners, but could not solve Munoz.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will take their first road trip of the season on Wednesday night to Azusa Pacific. Kickoff between the Yotes and Cougars is set for 7 p.m.
