LA MIRADA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team defeated the Biola Eagles on Saturday evening at Al Barbour Field by the score of 1-0.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 2-0 on the season.
Both teams had a fair share of opportunities, with the Coyotes registering 13 shot attempts and the Eagles close ahead with 14. However, only five of those shots were on target — CSUSB with three and Biola with two. Each team managed one shot on goal within the first 20 minutes.
Biola struck first with a shot in the 12th minute, followed by senior Anthony Morales (Orange, Calif.), who recorded the Yotes' first shot on goal in the 17th minute.
CSUSB got on the board in the 29th minute when redshirt freshman Damian Gonzalez (Whittier, Calif.) scored on a low shot to the left corner, assisted by junior Kenneth Livernois (Torrance, Calif.). That lone goal would prove to be the game winner.
Biola had a key opportunity with a shot on goal in the 85th minute, but senior Juanpablo Camacho (Norwalk, Calif.) came up with the save to preserve the Yotes' lead.
Camacho stopped both shots he faced to earn his first win and clean sheet of the season.
Up next, CSUSB faces Vanguard University on the road on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
