Women's Volleyball Sweeps Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeated Cal State San Marcos in straight sets Saturday evening in a CCAA contest at the Sports Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-15, and 25-17.

With the win, the Yotes improve to 8-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in CCAA action.

The first set was far and away the tightest set of the match, featuring 11 ties and five lead changes, but eventually it was the Coyotes who prevailed. One of seven first set kills from junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) sealed the first set victory for the Yotes.

Pedersen stayed hot in set two, with eight of CSUSB's 14 kills, as the Yotes hit .400 for the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead. McKenna Edwards (Santa Clarita, Calif.) had eight assists and five digs in the set to contribute on both sides of the ball.

The Coyotes sealed the sweep with 17 kills in set three, paced by senior Charli Blackman (Auckland, New Zealand) with seven.

Pedersen finished as the match's leader in kills with 19, while Blackman had 11 kills. Edwards had a double-double with 19 assists and a team-high 11 digs.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will finally play their home opener on Thursday evening against Cal Poly Pomona at Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
