LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team fell 3-2 to Cal State Los Angeles Friday night in a CCAA contest at University Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 25-15, and 15-12.
With the defeat, Cal State San Bernardino falls to 7-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in CCAA play.Â
CSUSB fell behind 1-0 in the match by falling 25-20 in set number one, despite a team-high four kills from Sarai Ross (Beaumont, Calif.).
The Coyotes got back on track in set two by winning 25-22 to level the match. The Yotes recorded an attack percentage of just .103 in the set, and nobody had more than two kills, but the Golden Eagles had 12 attack errors.
CSUSB swung .314 in set three to take the lead at 2-1. Charli Blackman (Auckland, New Zealand) was the star for CSUSB in the set, with four kills and no errors, while M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) and Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) each had three kills without errors.
Set four was all Golden Eagles to force a decisive fifth set. Sagiao and junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) each had three kills in the set, while senior libero Jayden Chornomud (Canyon Lake, Calif.) had nine digs.
CSUSB could not rally from four down midway through the fifth set despite narrowing the gap down to as little as one at 13-12. Seven different Coyotes had kills in the set with Blackman leading at two.
For the match, only Sagiao and Pedersen hit double figures in kills with 11 and 10 respectively. Chornomud was one of five Coyotes to hit double digits in digs, leading the way with 20, while McKenna Edwards (Santa Clarita, Calif.) led the way with 25 assists.
Next up, the Coyotes will travel south to face Cal State San Marcos on Saturday evening for a 5 p.m. first serve.
