#7 Men's Soccer Rallies to Draw with Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The #7 California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team played Cal State San Marcos to a 2-2 draw Thursday afternoon in a non-conference contest.

With the draw, the Yotes move to 5-0-2 on the season, remaining undefeated through seven contests.

San Marcos scored the only goal of the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room. The Cougars held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the half, taking the lead on a 24th minute Brando Oros tally.

The Cougars stretched their lead to a pair 7:17 into the second half, taking a commanding 2-0 lead.

The advantage proved to be short-lived though. Less than two minutes later, in the 55th minute, freshman Titus Alviso (Eastvale, Calif.) headed home his first collegiate goal off an Anthony Morales (Orange, Calif.) corner kick to cut the deficit down to 2-1.

Four and a half minutes later, CSUSB found the equalizer. Sophomore defender Damian Gonzalez (Whittier, Calif.) played a long ball over the top that bounced over a San Marcos defender and onto the foot of senior Tony Negrete (Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.), who deposited a shot into the back of the net to level the score at 2-2.

After the second San Marcos goal, the Coyotes recorded the game's next five shots, and two found the back of the net. The Cougars held a 10-8 shot advantage in the second half, but neither team could break the tie in the final 31 minutes, and the contest ended 2-2.

Coyote junior netminder Donovan Palomares (Boyle Heights, Calif.) recorded three saves in the draw for CSUSB.

Next up, the Yotes will play their fierce rival from Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday evening in Pomona. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
