Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team defeated Western Colorado University 5-1 on Friday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Katy O. Rady Field.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 2-2-1 overall on the season.
CSUSB scored first in just the fourth minute, when junior Raylene Alcaraz (Riverside, Calif.) found the back of the net for her first goal as a Coyote.Â
The Mountaineers answered exactly a minute later to level the score up at 1-1, where it remained for nearly the balance of the first half. With 4:05 left until the break however, sophomore Sakiah Williams (San Bernardino, Calif.) scored off a corner kick to put CSUSB on top for good. Senior Leslie Aldape (Ontario, Calif.) was credited with an assist on the tally.
The Yotes added one more just before the half when sophomore Alyssa Vernon (Hesperia, Calif.) buried her first collegiate goal, giving the Coyotes a 3-1 edge heading to halftime.
Sophomore Angelyn Pena (Los Angeles, Calif.) gave the visitors some insurance in the 61st minute when she buried her second goal in as many games, putting CSUSB on top 4-1. Senior Angela Morales (Montclair, Calif.) earned an assist on the play.
The Coyotes added another for good measure in the 85th minute to give the game its final score of 5-1. Junior Sydney Trump (Long Beach, Calif.) netted the goal, the first of her Coyote career.
Junior goalkeeper Ryann Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.) got the win in goal for the Coyotes. She made four saves in the victory.
Next, the Yotes will conclude their brief Colorado trip with a battle against Regis University on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. Pacific.
