Women's Volleyball Falls to Alaska Anchorage

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team suffered its first defeat of the 2025 season on Friday afternoon, falling to the University of Alaska Anchorage 3-0 to begin day two of the Denali Bank Ice Block Classic at Alaska Airlines Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, and 25-18.

With the defeat, the Yotes move to 4-1 overall on the young season.

The Seawolves went wire-to-wire in the first set to take a 1-0 advantage. Seven different Coyotes had kills in the set, paced by Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) with four, while junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) posted seven digs.

The second set was the tightest of the match, featuring eight ties and three lead changes. Once again however, it was the Seawolves that pulled away late to take a commanding 2-0 edge. Sagiao looked sharp again with five kills on just eight attacks without an error in the set, but San Bernardino's .279 second set team attack percentage wasn't enough to level the match.

The Coyotes led 10-9 as the third set approached its midway point, but Alaska Anchorage answered with a 6-0 run to put the contest out of reach.

Sagiao was the only Coyote in double figures in kills with 10, only making one attack error for a .409 attack percentage. Pedersen, Jordan Cherniss (Colton, Calif.), Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.), and Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) all had six kills in the defeat, while Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) dished out 21 assists.

The Coyotes will be back in action this evening to play Alaska Fairbanks at 8 p.m. Pacific.
