AZUSA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Azusa Pacific University in non-conference action Wednesday evening at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
With the defeat, the Coyotes drop to 1-2-0 overall on the season.
The contest went to the half still knotted at 0-0. The Yotes found the back off the net off a corner kick in the 26th minute, but a foul took the goal off the board.Â
The Coyotes had a number of grade A chances in the second half, but could not capitalize on their opportunities. No chance was better than an 86th minute bid from senior Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.), who got around the netminder with a strong first touch, but the low shot slid just wide of the net.
Azusa Pacific claimed the win in the 89th minute when they converted a penalty kick past junior goalkeeper Ryann Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.). Munoz looked sharp for the second game in a row for CSUSB, turning away four APU shots..
Next up for the Coyotes, they will return home to take on Biola on Saturday. Kickoff from Premier Field is slated for 3 p.m.
