Softball to Kick Off CCAA Tournament on Wednesday

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The fifth-seeded California State University San Bernardino softball team faces off Wednesday against the fourth-seeded and host Sonoma State Seawolves in the first round of the CCAA Tournament at the Seawolf Softball Field.

Recent Meetings

Sonoma State took three out of four against the Coyotes from March 21-22 at the CSUSB Softball Park. The Yotes rallied for a 10-6 win in the series finale.

How They Got Here

CSUSB finished the regular season with a 26-26 overall record and an 18-18 mark in CCAA play, earning the fifth seed by winning the tiebreaker over Cal State Dominguez Hills, thanks to a series victory against the Toros. Sonoma State wrapped up the season at 34-21 overall and 21-15 in conference play. The Seawolves caught fire down the stretch, posting a 19-5 record over their final 24 games, including a 16-4 run in CCAA action.

Players to Watch

CSUSB will be led by back-to-back CCAA Player of the Year Tereise Tosi (Garden Grove, Calif.), who tops the conference in batting average (.462), home runs (14), RBIs (47), and slugging percentage (.813). The Coyotes also had five additional players earn All-CCAA honors, highlighted by outfielder Shannon Galliano (San Mateo, Calif.), a Second Team selection. Bri Goris (Chino, Calif.), Samantha Vargas (Grand Terrace, Calif.), Brooke Blackmon (Exeter, Calif.), and Alex Hooper (Auburn, Calif.) were all CCAA Honorable Mentions.

Sonoma State boasts four All-CCAA First Team selections, headlined by outfielder Amari Houston, who is hitting .386 with 27 stolen bases, and pitcher Charlie Johnson, who has a 1.65 ERA this season.

From the Coach's Desk

We fought hard to earn the fifth seed in the CCAA Tournament," said CCAA softball head coach Dee Payan on Tuesday. "That prepared us to be competitive, gritty, and wear our hearts on our sleeves. We couldn't ask for a better matchup than with Sonoma State. We have respected and enjoyed playing Coach Bridges for years. We are happy to get the opportunity to play each other one more time, and we're thankful to have more time with this team."
