POMONA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team lost to the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on Friday evening in CCAA play at Scolinos Field by the score of 14-4.
With the loss, the Coyotes fall to 12-7 with a 4-5 record in CCAA play.
Cal Poly Pomona took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Coyotes quickly responded in the top of the second with an RBI double from junior Greg Luna (Moreno Valley, Calif.).
The Broncos regained the lead in the bottom of the second, going up 2-1, only for the Coyotes to tie it again in the top of the third on an RBI single by junior Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.).
Despite a strong offensive effort with 14 hits, including three each from seniors Wyatt Hall (Port Angeles, Wash.) and Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert, Calif.), the Coyotes' offense largely stalled after the third inning. The Broncos proved to be too dominant, setting season highs in runs (14) and tying a season-high in hits (19). CSUSB added two more runs in the top of the eighth, one coming on an RBI single from Mejia, but it wasn't enough.
Up next, the Coyotes continue their series against the Broncos with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch of game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
