SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team split a CCAA doubleheader with Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
The Yotes dropped a 4-3 decision in the opener, before a walk-off home run from Daryl Ruiz (Corona, Calif.) lifted CSUSB to an 8-6 game two victory.
With the split, the Coyotes move to 22-11 overall and 14-9 in the CCAA.

Game 1 - Cal State Monterey Bay 4, Cal State San Bernardino 3
The Otters got on the board with two runs in the top of the third, and added another in the top of the fifth to go ahead by three.
The Coyotes got a run back in the fifth when junior Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) delivered a two-out RBI single to center, scoring Jason Shedlock (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.). In the sixth, CSUSB closed the gap to 4–2 after a base hit by Adrian Hinojosa Jr. (Chula Vista, Calif.) led to a run-scoring groundout from Noah Betanco (San Diego, Calif.).
In the ninth, CSUSB put together a late rally. After a single by Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert, Calif.) and a walk to Giesegh, Shedlock reached to load the bases. Ruiz brought the Coyotes within one on a sacrifice fly to left field, but the tying run was left stranded at second.
On the mound, sophomore Carter Herrera (Temecula, Calif.) tossed four strong innings in relief, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out four.
The Coyotes outhit Monterey Bay 10-7 in the defeat, but left 11 men on base. Shedlock led the Yotes with three hits in the loss.

Game 2 - Cal State San Bernardino 8, Cal State Monterey Bay 6
Cal State Monterey Bay scored first with a single run in the top of the first, Giesegh tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a solo blast over the wall in left to level the score.
It was still 1-1 when the Otters struck for a pair in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage, but CSUSB responded in the bottom of the frame, cutting into the lead with a solo home run to center from Wyatt Hall (Port Angeles, Wash.).
Monterey Bay extended their lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Coyotes evened the score in the bottom of the frame. Hall pulled the Yotes to within one on a double into the gap, and came around to score on a base hit to left from Hinojosa to knot the score.
After the Otters took the lead with a single run in the top of the seventh, CSUSB forced extra innings in the bottom of the inning with a Mejia RBI single to plate pinch runner Keedan Nadeau (Highland, Calif.) from second base.
In the top of the ninth, Monterey Bay took the lead on a lead-off solo homer, but the lead would not hold up, as Ruiz connected in the bottom of the ninth with a first-pitch, no-doubt three-run homer over the centerfield fence, securing the walkoff win for the Coyotes.
Hall was the leading Coyote hitter in game two, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Ruiz went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
The win was credited to reliever Tank Rodriguez (Fontana, Calif.), who came on in extras and allowed one earned run over two innings in relief.
