SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University, San Bernardino baseball team split its doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against the San Francisco State Gators at Fiscalini Field.

Game 1: San Francisco State 12, CSUSB 4

San Francisco State took control in the first game and never trailed.

The Yotes mounted a small comeback in the bottom of the eighth with a four-run frame.

Senior Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert, Calif.) drove in CSUSB's first run with an RBI double, while senior Tyler Vanneste (Warman, Saskatchewan) added a two-run single. The final Coyote run would come home on a balk.

Vanneste and graduate student Daryl Ruiz (Corona, Calif.) each posted a pair of hits to lead the Yotes offensively.

Game 2: CSUSB 9, San Francisco State 8

The bats came alive early for CSUSB in game two. After the Gators scored a run in the top of the first, graduate student Ruiz hit his 28th career home run in the bottom, setting the all-time program record. Th long ball gave CSUSB a 2-1 advantage after one.

The Yotes tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the second, capped by a three-run homer from junior Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.). Junior Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) also had an RBI in the inning on a sacrifice fly to center.

San Francisco State wouldn't go down without a fight. The Gators hit a two-run shot in the top of the fourth, cutting CSUSB's lead to 7-3. In the top of the fifth, the Gators loaded the bases, and an RBI single made it 7-4. On the next at-bat, they hit a grand slam to center field, giving them an 8-7 lead.

CSUSB came up empty in the bottom of the fifth but responded in the sixth. Senior Adrian Hinojosa Jr. (Chula Vista, Calif.) led off the inning with a single and advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt and a ground out. With two outs, Ruiz came up clutch again, tying the game with a single to right center.

CSUSB's bullpen delivered, as freshman Jojo Duran (San Bernardino, Calif.) and junior Carter Herrera (Yucaipa, Calif.) combined for 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out four.

In the bottom of the seventh, junior Greg Luna (Moreno Valley, Calif.) led off with a single. Next, senior Matt Gonzales (Glendora, Calif.) laid down a sacrifice bunt, but an error by San Francisco State put him on second and Luna on third. In the next at-bat, a wild pitch from the Gators allowed Luna to score, sealing the win for the Coyotes.

Four Coyotes finished with a pair of hits in the game two victory, led by Ruiz, who also chipped in three runs batted in and two runs scored.
