SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino softball team split a CCAA doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the CSUSB Softball Park, claiming a 3-1 series win over #18 Cal State Dominguez Hills.
CSUSB fell 8-1 in game one, before rebounding with a 10-5 victory in the nightcap.
With the split, CSUSB improves to 9-7 overall on the season and 3-1 in the CCAA.

Game 1 - Cal State Dominguez Hills 8, Cal State San Bernardino 1
Dominguez Hills broke the ice in the top of the first inning on an RBI single, but the Yotes quickly answered in the bottom of the second. Senior Emilie Lapeña (Buena Park, Calif.) put the hosts on the board when she recorded an RBI single up the middle, scoring junior Madison Zaro (Chino, Calif.) to level the score at 1-1.
The Toros took command of the game with four runs in the top of the third to take a 5-1 lead. The big blow in the inning came on a three-run homer over the wall in left.
Cal State Dominguez Hills added insurance with home runs in the sixth and seventh innings, giving the game its final score of 8-1.
The Yotes were shut down offensively in game one, recording only four hits in the defeat. Two of the four hits came off the bat of senior Tereise Tosi (Garden Grove, Calif.), who went 2-for-3.
The loss was charged to starter Ashley Legler (San Diego, Calif.), who threw the first 2.2 innings of the contest.

Game 2 - Cal State San Bernardino 10, Cal State Dominguez Hills 5
The Coyotes took the early lead with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Lindsey Marschall (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) drove in the game's first run, plating Brooke Brazill (Clovis, Calif.) to put CSUSB on top 1-0.
Dominguez Hills briefly took a 2-1 lead on a two-run homer in the top of the second, but Tosi leveled the score with a solo home run to the opposite field in the bottom of the third.
Tosi was not done yet, as her second opposite field solo homer in as many at-bats put the Coyotes up 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The lead was short-lived however, as Cal State Dominguez Hills scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage.
CSUSB exploded for seven in the bottom of the sixth to take command of the contest. Graduate student Shannon Galliano (San Mateo, Calif.) tied the score on an RBI single, before junior Annamaria Nuno (Moreno Valley, Calif.) put the Yotes ahead with a pinch hit two-run double to right field. Tosi and Marschall also delivered RBI hits in the frame, before sophomore Isabella Venegas (Upland, Calif.) put the final nail in the coffin by belting a two-run homer to left, giving the Yotes a 10-4 lead.
Dominguez Hills scored one harmless run in the top of the seventh, and the game ended 10-5.
Tosi had a massive game two, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and two doubles. Marschall and Venegas each had identical 2-for-4 days, each with two runs batted in and one run scored. Senior Jonessa Hebreo (San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-2 in the win.
Senior Samantha Vargas (Grand Terrace, Calif.), who came on in relief in the top of the sixth inning, was credited with the win for CSUSB.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will head on the road for a four-game set against Cal State Monterey Bay, starting next Friday at 12 p.m.
