TURLOCK, Calif. - The #20 California State University San Bernardino baseball team suffered a 7-2 loss to the Stanislaus State Warriors Friday evening at Warrior Baseball Field.
With the defeat, the Coyotes fall to 8-3 overall and 0-1 in CCAA play.
CSUSB took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Jason Shedlock (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) singled to right-center. Despite loading the bases later in the inning, the Coyotes were unable to capitalize.
Stanislaus State responded by scoring two runs in the fourth and adding four more in the sixth to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
The Coyotes started to get something going in the eighth with back-to-back hits from junior Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.) and senior Adrian Hinojosa, Jr. (Chula Vista, Calif.). Junior Greg Luna (Moreno Valley, Calif.) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but that was all CSUSB could muster. The Warriors added a run in the bottom of the eighth, extending their lead to 7-2.
CSUSB will continue the series against Stanislaus State with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
