SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball fell to Cal State Los Angeles 68-60 in a CCAA contest Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.
With the defeat, the Coyotes fall to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-2 in the CCAA.
Cal State Los Angeles outscored CSUSB 13-7 in the first quarter, holding the Coyotes to just 3-of-15 (20.0 percent) shooting.Â
CSUSB picked it up offensively in the second quarter, but still trailed by a dozen at 33-21 at the break. Sophomore Aariah Roa (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit a pair of threes off the bench to lead the Yotes with six second quarter points, while senior Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.) had five points of her own.
Both offenses scored 22 points in the third quarter, as the Golden Eagles took a 55-43 lead into the fourth and final period. Saidoff led all players in the period with nine points, coming on a trio of triples, while junior Citlali Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) poured in five points with a couple steals.
The fourth was the first quarter in which the Coyotes outpaced Cal State LA, besting the Golden Eagles 17-13 to close the final deficit to eight. Saidoff hit a couple more threes in the fourth, bringing her total to a team-high 21 points for the afternoon. Ruffin matched Saidoff with six in the fourth quarter.Â
Saidoff was the only player in double figures for the Coyotes with her 21, and filled the stat sheet with six boards, four assists, and a steal. Salazar was the second leading scorer for the Yotes with eight points.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will travel to Stanislaus State on Friday, December 19. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
