TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team dominated Stanislaus State on Friday evening in a CCAA contest at Fitzpatrick Arena, defeating the Warriors 78-33.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 3-5 overall on the season and 1-2 in the CCAA.
CSUSB was in control right from the outset, outpacing the Warriors 22-4 in the opening quarter. The Coyotes scored the game's first 18 points, all in the first 4:04 of the game, before Stanislaus was able to stop the bleeding. Senior Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.) led the Coyote scorers in the first quarter, notching eight points for CSUSB.Â
The Yotes continued to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Warriors 14-9 to carry a 36-13 lead into the locker room. Nine of CSUSB's 14 second period points came from the bench, led by four points from freshman guard Nevaeh Lemons (Compton, Calif.).Â
For the half, the Yotes held Stanislaus State to just 4-of-28 (14.3 percent) shooting, including 1-of-11 (9.1 percent) shooting from distance.
Cal State San Bernardino continued to roll in quarter number three, posting another 22 points to Stan State's mere eight to really put the game out of reach. Saidoff hit a trio of triples in the period to score a game-high 11.Â
The Coyotes were able to rest their starters in the fourth and final quarter, but the Yotes still continued to roll. CSUSB scored 20 points in the fourth, with only two coming from its starting five. Graduate student Paisley Specht (Sacramento, Calif.) led the way with seven points for the Coyotes in the final period.
Saidoff finished the evening as the game's leading scorer with 19 points on 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) field goal shooting and 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) three-point shooting. Sophomore Princess Cassell (Eastvale, Calif.) had 11 points for CSUSB, while Specht had 10 off the bench.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Sunday, facing UC Merced on the road. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
