Women's Volleyball Handles Cal State East Bay

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team took down Cal State East Bay in straight sets Friday night in a CCAA contest on Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-10, 25-16, and 25-16.

With the win, the Coyotes improve to 17-5 overall on the season and 12-3 in the CCAA.

The first set was all Coyotes, as the hosts hit .429 with 17 kills and only two errors to cruise to a 1-0 advantage. Junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) matched East Bay's team kill total in the set with seven, while classmate M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) put down three kills with an assisted block.

The second set was relatively tight early on, as the Coyotes led by just three at 17-14 just past the midway point of the set. The Yotes however went on a 7-1 run to take control of the set at 24-15, thanks in part to four kills from redshirt senior Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.). Two points later, an assisted block from Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) and McKenna Edwards (Santa Clarita, Calif.) wrapped up the set two win for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes balanced out the attack in the third set, with six players posting kills to close out the sweep. Pedersen led the Yotes with four kills, while Hoffmann, Edwards, and Drake all had a pair.

Pedersen was the only player to hit double figures in kills in the victory, with a 17-kill, 15-dig double-double. Drake hit .583 for the match with eight kills on just 12 swings, while sophomore Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) posted eight kills of her own.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will play Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday at Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
