LA MIRADA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team rallied to knock off Biola University 68-60 in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at Chase Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Coyotes stay perfect at 2-0 on the season.
Biola controlled the opening quarter, leading by as many as 13 points and holding a 25-17 edge by the horn. The Coyotes were paced by seven points from senior Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.), who hit a pair of triples in the period.
The Yotes narrowed the gap by outscoring the Eagles 21-18 to go to the locker room down by just five. Redshirt sophomore Jaushlynn Ruffin (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored six points off the bench for the Coyotes in the second, one of seven Yotes to find the scoresheet in the period.
Both defenses kicked it into the next gear in the third quarter, combining for just 10 made baskets and 23 points, but it was the visitors who outpaced the hosts 13-10. Graduate student Paisley Specht (Sacramento, Calif.) was the only Yote to hit multiple buckets in the quarter, scoring a team-high five points.
The Coyotes opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run over the first six and half minutes to take command of the contest. They would end up holding Biola to just seven points in the quarter and 17 points in the half to complete the comeback. Redshirt junior Riy Smith (Oceanside, Calif.) led the Yotes with six points on 3-of-3 shooting in quarter number four.
Leading the way offensively for the Coyotes was sophomore Princess Cassell (Eastvale, Calif.), who scored 13 points. Junior Citlali Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 11 points of her own, while Smith finished with 10.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Friday, facing future conference foe Fresno Pacific at San Francisco State. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
