Women's Volleyball Takes Care of Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeated Stanislaus State in straight sets Saturday evening in a CCAA contest at Fitzpatrick Arena. Set scores were 25-20, 25-14, and 25-21.

With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 16-5 overall and into a tie for second in the CCAA at 11-3 in league play.

The Yotes controlled the play in set number one, leading by as many as nine points in the later stages of the set to take the early 1-0 lead. Junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) had a staggering eight kills in the set, with sophomore setter McKenna Edwards (Santa Clarita, Calif.) dishing out a match-high 15 assists.

Set two was tight early on, as the teams were tied at one point 9-9, but CSUSB would pull away, scoring 16 of the set's final 21 points to take a commanding two sets to none lead. The Yotes spread out the attack in the set, with Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.), M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.), and Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) each posting four kills.

The Warriors took the first seven points of set three and looked poised to extend the match. The Coyotes, however, answered with a 10-3 run to level the score and began to chisel away ath the lead. Stanislaus State stuck around for a while, and had the match close at 21-20 coming down the stretch, but CSUSB would go on a 4-1 run, capped by a Jayden Chornomud (Canyon Lake, Calif.) service ace, to close out the win.

Pedersen was the only player in the win to record double figures in kills with a dozen, while Sagiao and Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) each posted seven. Pedersen and Chornomud led the way defensively with 12 digs apiece, while Drake had five blocks (one solo) and Sagiao had four assisted blocks.
