CHICO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team made quick work of Chico State on Thursday evening, sweeping the Wildcats 3-0 in CCAA play at Acker Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-16, 25-15, and 25-21.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 10-4 overall on the season and 5-2 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes used 15 first set kills to take a 1-0 lead. Junior
Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) continued her strong start to the season with six kills in set number one and a .333 attack percentage, as well as a team-high seven digs.Â
After the Yotes dropped the first two points of set number two, they responded with an 8-0 run with
Jordan Cherniss (Colton, Calif.) at the service line, and never looked back. Cal State San Bernardino would lead by as many as 12 at 19-7 in the set on their way to the win. Pedersen led the Coyote offense in the set with eight kills and no errors on 10 attempts.
The third set was the tightest of the evening, but the Yotes rallied from a four-point deficit to secure the sweep. Midway through the set, Chico State led 15-11, but the Coyotes went on a 10-2 run to go ahead 21-17, and eventually closed out the win. Seven different players had kills in set three for Cal State San Bernardino, paced by four from middle blocker
M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.).
Pedersen was the only player on either team to hit double figures in kills with a match-high 16. She finished a dig shy of a double-double with nine. Senior
Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) had seven kills without an error, while
Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) finished with six kills.Â
Next up for the Coyotes, they will continue their road trip at Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday. First serve from Arcata is slated for 2 p.m.
