SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills in straight sets Saturday evening in a CCAA contest on Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-22, 25-13, and 25-20.
With the win, the Yotes improve to 9-4 overall on the season and 4-2 in CCAA action.
The Coyotes had an astounding 20 kills in set number one en route to taking a 1-0 lead. Senior Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) and junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) each had six kills, and the team swung .436 to lift the Yotes to the set one victory.
Cal State San Bernardino dominated set two to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Yotes opened the set on a 9-2 run, and lead by as many as 14 points at 20-6 in the set to cruise to the win. CSUSB hit .522 in the set, and was paced by five kills on five attempts from Pedersen.
Set three was tight in the early stages, and was knotted at 5-5, but an 11-2 run gave the Yotes a 16-7 lead, and the hosts wouldn't look back from there. Pedersen had five more kills in the set, while Hoffmann, Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) and McKenna Edwards (Santa Clarita, Calif.) each chipped in three.
Pedersen led all players with 16 kills in the victory, while also notching seven digs and a service ace. Hoffmann finished in double figures in kills with 10, while Edwards had a huge match with six kills, no attack errors, 33 assists, 13 digs, and five blocks.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will travel to Chico State on Thursday to take on the Wildcats in a CCAA contest. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
