SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team swept San Francisco State Friday evening at the Don Nasser Family Plaza to secure its berth in the CCAA Tournament. Set scores were 25-12, 25-20, and 25-21.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 15-5 overall on the season and 10-3 in the CCAA.
San Francisco State struggled mightily in set one with two kills to 10 attack errors for a -.258 attack percentage, opening the door for the Coyotes to cruise to a set one victory.Â
The Gators scored the contest's first three points before an 11-0 run with
Jayden Chornomud (Canyon Lake, Calif.) at the service line put the Coyotes firmly and command, and the visitors would never look back.
M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.),
Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.), and
Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) each had three kills in the opening set to pace the Yotes.
The second set was the tightest of the match, featuring a staggering 13 ties and six lead changes. The longest scoring run of the entire set, a 4-0 Coyote surge, came at the most crucial time, as the Yotes took the set from 20-20 to 24-20 two points before closing out the set to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Hoffmann led CSUSB in the set with four more kills.
Set three featured much less drama than the second, as the Yotes went wire to wire to clinch the sweep. Cal State San Bernardino again used a balanced attack led by four Hoffman kills, while sophomore
McKenna Edwards (Santa Clarita, Calif.) dished out 13 assists.
Hoffmann led the balanced Coyote offense with 11 kills in the win, and was the only Coyote in double figures. Edwards had 28 assists and 11 digs, while Chornomud led all players with 15 digs.
The Yotes will return to the court on Saturday with a contest at Stanislaus State. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
