SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team took down San Francisco State University 3-0 Friday afternoon in their CCAA opener at Cox Stadium.
With the win, the Yotes jump to 3-3-2 overall on the season and open their CCAA slate at 1-0-0.
The Coyotes wasted no time getting on the board in just the seventh minute, after a long ball was played over the top to the foot of
Raylene Alcaraz (Riverside, Calif.), the junior unselfishly played a pass over to
Angelyn Pena (Los Angeles, Calif.), who deposited a shot into the wide open lead to put CSUSB ahead 1-0.
Less than five minutes later, sophomore
Jackeline Fuentes (San Bernardino, Calif.) stretched the Coyote lead to a pair with her first collegiate goal. On a free kick from just outside the box, Fuentes curled a shot into the side netting to the right of the Gator keeper to put CSUSB up by two.
Minutes after another of her bids was called off due to offsides, sophomore
Sakiah Williams (San Bernardino, Calif.) cemented the Coyote victory in the 64th minute by tallying her second goal of the season. After scoring the second Coyote goal, Fuentes was credited with an assist on the final marker of the day.
CSUSB held a lopsided advantage in just about every statistical category in the win, including shots at 26-6 (12-3 in shots on goal) and corner kicks at 8-3. In net, junior
Ryann Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.) turned away all three shots she faced for the clean sheet.
Next up, the Coyotes will head to Seaside to take on Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 11:30 a.m.
