SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeat UC Merced in three sets Saturday afternoon in a CCAA contest on
Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-12, 25-15, and 25-16.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 14-5 overall and 9-3 in the CCAA.
Cal State San Bernardino came out on fire in set number one, posting 16 kills without an error to cruise to the early 1-0 lead in the match. Leading the way for the Coyotes was redshirt senior
Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.), who had six kills in the first.
The Coyotes spread out the attack in set two and continued to dominate. Eight different players had a kill in the set, led by three from juniors
Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) and
Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.).
M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) also chipped in a couple assisted blocks in set two.Â
Four of the Coyote attack errors in the match came in set three, but the hosts still managed a .289 attack percentage to close out the match. Sophomore
Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) was dialed in with four kills on five attacks in the set to lead the Coyotes to the sweep.
The Yotes set season bests in attack errors (five) and attack percentage (.406) in the win. No player had more than one attack error, and Hoffmann led all players with 10 kills. Pedersen and Sagiao each finished with eight, while Legates had seven.Â
Next up for the Coyotes, they will travel north for a matchup against San Francisco State on Friday. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
