ARCATA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team defeated Cal Poly Humboldt 2-1 Sunday afternoon in a CCAA contest at College Creek Field.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 7-2-4 overall and 2-1-2 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes fully dominated the play in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the hosts 14-0. Two of those shots found the back of the net, the first off the foot of senior Anthony Morales (Orange, Calif.). The senior beat the keeper to the near post with a left-footed effort to break the ice in the 20th minute, off an assist from Tony Negrete (Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.).
Just under three minutes later, defender Damian Gonzalez (Whittier, Calif.) stretched the Coyotes lead to a pair with his fourth goal of the season, coming off a CSUSB corner kick. Negrete notched his second assist of the game, while sophomore Rafa Fonseca (Corona, Calif.) was also credited with an assist.
Cal Poly Humboldt cut the lead in half in the 71st minute, but it was too little too late as the Yotes were able to seal the win.
In goal, CSUSB senior Donovan Palomares (Boyle Heights, Calif.) earned the win with one save.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will return home to face Cal State East Bay on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m.
