ARCATA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team picked up three key points Sunday afternoon, defeating Cal Poly Humboldt 3-2 in a CCAA contest at College Creek Field.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 5-5-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCAA.
The Lumberjacks netted the game's first goal in just the ninth minute on an own goal, but the Coyotes got it back on a penalty kick goal from senior Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) just two and a half minutes later.Â
The score was still level at 1-1 in the 54th minute when Cervantes gave the Yotes their first lead of the day. After Emilee Perez (Corona, Calif.) took a shot from the left wing, the rebound bounced right to Cervantes, who made no mistake depositing a right-footed shot into the back of the net.
Seven minutes later, in the 61st minute, Cervantes completed the hat trick when she found a loose ball in the box and surprised the Lumberjack goalkeeper with a hard shot to the short side to give the Coyotes a 3-1 lead.
Humboldt made things interesting by cutting the Coyote lead to 3-2 in the 75th minute, but that was as close as the Lumberjacks would get.
In goal, CSUSB junior Ryann Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.) earned the win with one save.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will return home to face Cal State East Bay on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
