SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team fell 76-58 to #5 Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at Coussoulis Arena.
With the win, CSUSB improves to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes trailed 20-12 at the end of the first quarter after shooting a mark of 26.7 percent (4-for-15). Graduate student Lauryn Morris (Irvine, Calif.) and senior Deannah Buckner (Rialto, Calif.) led the way for CSUSB with three points each in the opening quarter.
CSUSB's shooting woes continued in the second quarter, and the Yotes went into the locker room trailing 42-23. Senior Isabel Arango (Gardena, Calif.) was the leading Coyote scorer in the second, scoring four points.
The Yotes outscored Dominguez Hills 22-16 in the third, and at one point cut their deficit to as little as nine at 49-40 late in the frame, but could not get any closer than that the rest of the afternoon. Morris and freshman Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.) each contributed six points in the third to propel the CSUSB surge.
Dominguez Hills pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Yotes 18-13 to secure the 18-point victory. Morris scored eight of CSUSB's 13 points in the final period.
Morris served as the leading scorer for CSUSB, posting 19 points with four assists and four rebounds. Buckner was the only other in double figures, scoring 10 points. Senior Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) finished the game just a point shy of a double-double, with nine points and a game-high 10 points.
Next up for the Yotes, they will return to make the long trip north to Cal Poly Humboldt for a Thursday evening CCAA contest. Tip-off from Arcata is slated for 5:30 p.m.
