SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team knocked off Cal State Monterey Bay 64-54 Saturday afternoon in CCAA action at Coussoulis Arena.
With the win, CSUSB improves to 5-10 overall on the season and 4-6 in CCAA play.
CSUSB controlled the play in the opening quarter, outscoring the visitors 16-6. Graduate student Tarryn Ross (Garden Grove, Calif.) led the Yotes with five first quarter points, as the hosts shot 5-for-10 (50.0 percent) from the floor.
The Coyotes narrowly outpaced the Otters 11-10 in a low-scoring second to take a 27-16 lead into the locker room. Senior Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) paced CSUSB with four points in the frame.
Monterey Bay drew closer in the third quarter, posting a game-high 22 points to pull the score to within six at 44-38 heading to the fourth. Ross hit a pair of triples in the quarter to lead CSUSB with eight points.
CSUSB shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) in the fourth and final quarter to help close out the win. Five different Coyotes all scored three or more points in the quarter, led by graduate student Lauryn Morris (Irvine, Calif.) with five.
Four Coyotes finished the victory in double figures, led by Ross with 13 points. Dufresne had another strong outing with 12 points, five rebounds, and four blocks, while graduate student Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) had 11 and Morris had 10.
Next up for the Yotes, they will travel to San Francisco State on Thursday for a CCAA contest against the Gators. Tip-off from the Don Nasser Family Plaza is slated for 5:30 p.m.
