Women's Basketball Takes Care of Stanislaus State

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team bested Stanislaus State 66-47 Thursday evening in CCAA action at Coussoulis Arena.

With the win, CSUSB improves to 4-10 overall on the season and 3-6 in CCAA play.

CSUSB looked sharp offensively in the opening quarter, scoring 20 points and outrebounding the Warriors 10-7 to hold a 20-16 lead after the first quarter. Graduate student Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) led the Coyotes with eight points in the quarter while shooting 4-of-6.

CSUSB began to pull away in the second quarter, holding Stanislaus State to just eight points to take a 38-24 lead into the locker room. Lauryn Morris (Irvine, Calif.) was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor for a team-high six points in the second, while the Warriors shot just 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) from the floor in the quarter.

Six different players recorded one basket each as the Yotes went 6-of-11 (55.6 percent) from the floor in the third quarter and went to the fourth ahead by 18. Senior Paisley Specht (Sacramento, Calif.) hit CSUSB's lone three of the quarter, while Jackson had two points and four rebounds.

CSUSB scored the first seven points of the final frame to take a 26-point lead and really put the game out of reach. Sophomore Citlali Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored all of her season-high eight points in the fourth to help the Yotes seal the one-sided win.

Morris serves as the leading Coyote scorer, posting 12 points, while Jackson was the only other player in double figures with 10. Eleven of CSUSB's 12 active players scored on the evening.

Next up for the Yotes, they will return to action on Saturday for a CCAA contest against Cal State Monterey Bay. Tip-off from Coussoulis Arena is slated for 1 p.m.
