SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team broke a 1-1 deadlock with 26 seconds remaining to stun Biola University 2-1 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at a hot and hazy Premier Field.
With the win, the Coyotes remain unbeaten on the season at 1-0-1.
The Coyotes peppered the Eagle net in the waning minutes of the game, but finally got the breakthrough they were looking for when a
Martin Garcia (Santa Ana, Calif.) cross came in from the left wing and found the head of defender
Reece Kilpin (Sydney, Australia). The junior nodded the ball past the outstretched arms of the Biola keeper to seal the victory for the Yotes.
Biola drew first blood on a Joseph Davis marker in the 22nd minute, and took a 1-0 edge into the halftime break.
The Eagles led all the way until the 73rd minute, when CSUSB sophomore
Rafa Fonseca's first collegiate goal drew the contest level. Sophomore
Marcos Delgado (Las Vegas, Nev.) played a perfect through ball up the middle to Fonseca from the midfield, and Fonseca calmly tapped the ball past the keeper and into the cage to knot the score at 1-1.
In net, senior
Aiden Hanes (Riverside, Calif.) earned the victory with a one-save effort. With the win, he improves to 1-0-1 overall.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will return to action on Thursday for a 12 p.m. kickoff aginst Vanguard University at Premier Field.
