#21 Women's Volleyball Takes Down Cal State Monterey Bay

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The #21 California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team took out Cal State Monterey Bay 3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Saturday evening on Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-16, 25-23, 24-26, and 25-21.

With the victory, CSUSB moves to 7-4 overall on the season and 3-1 in the CCAA.

The first set was all Coyotes, as the hosts hit .448 with 15 combined kills and only two attack errors. The set featured only one tie (2-2) and no lead changes as the Coyotes nearly went wire-to-wire. Seniors Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) and Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) combined for 14 of CSUSB's 15 kills, with eight and six respectively, while Hoffmann chipped in four assisted blocks.

Set two was a different story with 12 ties and seven lead changes, but the final result was the same as the Yotes took a commanding 2-0 lead. The final lead change of the set came right at the end, as the hosts went on a 3-0 run after trailing 23-22 to secure the set. Sophomore Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) and Robinson each had kills during the short set-clinching spurt.

The Otters made things interesting by taking set three by the narrow margin of 26-24. CSUSB had a match-low attack percentage of .161 in the third, due in part to seven attack errors and four Monterey Bay blocks.

The Coyotes took care of business in the fourth and final set to clinch their third consecutive victory. Five Coyotes had multiple kills in the set, led by four each from Hoffmann and Robinson. The Otters made things interesting at the end with a brief 4-0 run with the Yotes at match point. A well-timed Kim Cherniss timeout stopped the bleeding however, as sophomore Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) put an exclamation point on the win with a powerful match-clinching kill into the body of the Monterey Bay libero.

Robinson finished with an enormous 22 kills with an attack percentage of .275 in the win. It is the third time this season Robinson has posted 20 or more kills in a match, with all three resulting in Coyote wins. Hoffmann also had a big night offensively with 13 kills of her own.

Freshman middle Addie Hamilton (Rocklin, Calif.) made a statement defensively in her first collegiate start, posting nine assisted blocks in the win. Hoffmann had eight assisted blocks and one solo, as the Yotes combined to block 17 Otter attacks.

Junior libero Abbey Clarke (Oswego, Ill.) led the Coyotes with 11 digs on the night, while senior Kylie Thomas (San Bernardino, Calif.) had CSUSB's only double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.

Next up for the Yotes, they will start a five-match road trip on Friday, October 4 at Chico State. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
