#19 Women's Volleyball Knocks Off Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The #19 California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeated Cal State San Marcos in four sets Saturday evening in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at the Sports Center. Set scores were 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-15.

With the victory, CSUSB moves to 5-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in the CCAA.

CSUSB got off to a slow start with a narrow set one loss. The Yotes led by as many as four midway through the set after a from freshman Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) put the visitors up 14-10, but San Marcos responded with a 6-1 run and never looked back to take the early edge.

The Coyotes turned in around in set number two to level the match. Senior Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) posted six kills, while classmate Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) posted four as the Yotes hit .278 to even the score.

Hoffmann took over in the third to help the Yotes take their first lead of the match. The senior posted eight kills with only one error on 13 attempts for a third set attack percentage of .538, and accounted for eight of CSUSB's 14 kills to push Cal State San Marcos to the brink.

Five fourth set kills and four service aces from Robinson lifted CSUSB to a one-sided match-clinching set four victory.

Robinson finished as the match's leader in kills with 18, and tacked on 10 digs for the double-double. Hoffmann posted 14 kills of her own, while sophomore M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) posted a career-high eight kills to pace the Yotes.

Libero Abbey Clarke (Oswego, Ill.) had a strong showing defensively for CSUSB, posting a match-high 20 digs, to go along with three service aces and three assists.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will return home from their five-match roadtrip for a Thursday evening contest against Cal State East Bay. First serve from Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
