ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The #16 California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team was toppled by Simon Fraser University in straight sets Saturday afternoon in their final match of the Central Washington Invitational at Nicholson Arena. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, and 25-11.
With the defeat, the Coyotes return home with a record of 4-3 overall after going 2-1 at the tournament.
CSUSBÂ tallied 18 first set kills but still could not take down the Red Leafs. Seniors
Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) and
Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) combined for seven and six kills respectively in the first, but still fell by a narrow 25-23 margin.
Simon Fraser began to pull away in set number two with a 25-16 victory. The Coyotes were held to an attack percentage of .054 with nine kills and seven errors, paced by three kills from Robinson.
Set three was all Red Leafs right from the hop, as the Yotes recorded only four kills and 11 points in the entire set. CSUSB hit -.069 in the set.
Cal State San Bernardino was led by Robinson in the match with 10 kills, while Hoffmann finished with nine. Robinson also posted 12 digs, while junior liberoÂ
Jayden Chornomud (Murrieta, Calif.) led the way for CSUSB with 14 digs.
After the tournament, Robinson and junior
Jordan Cherniss (Colton, Calif.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will open California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a road contest against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at Kellogg Arena. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
