SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino softball team swept Hawaii Pacific University on Tuesday afternoon with a pair of identical  6-1 decisions in non-conference action at the CSUSB Softball Park.
With the sweep, the Coyotes move to 21-13 overall.
Game 1 - Cal State San Bernardino 6, Hawaii Pacific 1
Hawaii Pacific struck first in the top of the first, but CSUSB answered in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs to take their first lead of the game. Juniors Emilie Lapeña (Buena Park, Calif.) and Bri Goris (Chino, Calif.) each recorded RBI singles up the middle in the frame.
The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when the Yotes added some insurance by plating four runs. Pitcher Natalie Carlos (Garden Grove, Calif.) helped her own cause with an RBI single to begin the rally and put the Yotes ahead 3-1. Sophomore Brooke Brazill (Clovis, Calif.) stretched the lead to 4-1 when she scored on a passed ball.
A two-run double from senior Shannon Galliano (San Mateo, Calif.) capped CSUSB's four-run sixth and put the game out of reach for the Sharks.
Carlos finished off the complete game victory allowing just the one earned run on seven hits. She struck out one batter and conceded zero walks.
Lapeña led the way for CSUSB offensively, going 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Goris was the only other Yote with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2 - Cal State San Bernardino 6, Hawaii Pacific 1
The Coyotes got the offense going right from the start, posting a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Tereise Tosi (Garden Grove, Calif.) put the Yotes on top with an RBI single up the middle to score Galliano. 
The Coyotes tacked on two more in the second with a two-run infield single from Lapeña to take a 3-0 lead to the third inning.
HPU got on the board in the top of the fourth, but the Coyotes responded with a pair in the bottom of the frame to go ahead 5-1. Tosi notched her second RBI of the game with a base hit, and scored a batter later on a Goris double to right center field.
In the fifth, Carlos capped CSUSB's offense for the day, roping a solo home run right off the American flag in left field for her first collegiate homer to put the hosts ahead 6-1.
Junior Samantha Vargas (Grand Terrace, Calif.) earned her 10th win of the season in the circle with a stellar one-run, two-hit performance over six innings pitched. She struck out five in the victory. Sophomore Ashley Legler (San Diego, Calif.) threw a perfect 1-2-3 seventh to wrap up the CSUSB victory.
Carlos went 3-for-3 at the plate, with two runs scored and an RBI from the home run. Tosi went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored as the only other Coyote with multiple hits.
CSUSB will return to action on Friday with a CCAA doubleheader against #23 Cal State San Marcos at home. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
