LOLETA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino softball team completed its regular season with a split at Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday afternoon at the Bear River Sports Complex.
Cal State San Bernardino fell 9-1 in game one, before defeating the Lumberjacks 9-4in game two.
With the split, the Coyotes conclude their regular season with a record of 28-19 overall and 20-14 in the CCAA.
Game 1 - Cal Poly Humboldt 9, Cal State San Bernardino 1 (6 Innings)
The Coyotes got their only offense of game one in the top of the first inning, when junior Tereise Tosi (Garden Grove, Calif.) notched an RBI single through the right side, making the score 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
Humboldt took the contest over in the bottom of the frame with five runs to go ahead 5-1. They would score one in the second, two in the third, and one in the bottom of the sixth to close out the shortened victory.
CSUSB scattered seven hits over six innings, but were only able to push one run across. Tosi and senior Hayden Greene (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) each recorded a pair of hits to lead CSUSB.Â
Game 2 - Cal State San Bernardino 9, Cal Poly Humboldt 4
After the offense struggled in game one, the Coyotes rebounded in game two to take their season finale.
The Yotes scored three times in the top of the first to take the early advantage. Tosi connected for a three-run homer over the center field fence in the frame to put the Coyotes in the lead.
Humboldt got one back in the bottom of the second, but the Yotes plated a pair in the top of the third to go ahead 5-1. Sophomore Mia Escujuri (Chino Hills, Calif.) recorded an RBI single and freshman Isabella Venegas (Upland, Calif.) notched a sacrifice fly in the inning.Â
The Lumberjacks scored three times in the bottom of the third to make things interesting, but CSUSB responded with four in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Greene opened the inning with an RBI double, followed by a two-run single by junior Diggy Olson (Riverside, Calif.) and an RBI single from senior Shannon Galliano (San Mateo, Calif.).
Galliano's three hits let CSUSB in the win, while Tosi, Lapeña, Escujuri, and Venegas all notched a pair of hits.
Junior Brooke Blackmon (Exeter, Calif.) recorded the win for the Coyotes on Saturday, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits in the complete game effort. She struck out four on the way to her fifth win of the season.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will take on Cal State East Bay in the single elimination stage of the CCAA Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Cal State San Marcos. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
