CARSON, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team suffered a 14-4 defeat at the hands of Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Toro Field.
With the defeat, the Coyotes move to 14-14 overall on the season, and 7-11 in the CCAA.
Dominguez Hills opened the scoring with a single run in the first and a single run in the third before CSUSB got on the board in the top of the fourth. Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert, Calif.) recorded an RBI double down the right field line to cut San Bernardino's deficit to 2-1, before Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) gave the Coyotes a 3-2 lead on a two-run single to right center.
The Toros responded with four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a commanding 11-3 lead.Â
Senior Daniel Garcia Jr. (San Bernardino, Calif.) belted a solo home run down the right field line in the top of the eighth to cut into the lead, but that would be the end of CSUSB's offense on the day. The Toros tacked on three more in the bottom of the frame to give the game its final score of 14-4.
Garcia was the only Coyote to record multiple hits in the defeat, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.Â
Reigning CCAA Pitcher of the Week Benny Olguin (Alhambra, Calif.) took the loss for CSUSB, allowing six earned on seven hits over 4.1 innings pitched.
The Yotes will be off until Friday, April 5 when they begin a four-game set against Chico State at Fiscalini Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
