SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team picked up a key 55-47 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday evening at Coussoulis Arena.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 10-11 overall on the season and 8-8 in the CCAA.Â
San Bernardino scored the game's first six points and never looked back, going wire-to-wire for the win. Senior Destiny Jackson (Hayward, Calif.) scored five points in the first quarter to lead the Yotes.
The Coyotes began to pull away in the second quarter, posting 22 points to take a 36-26 lead into the locker room. Jackson was San Bernardino's leading scorer for the second period in a row with six points, while forward Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) posted four points and four boards.
The teams combined to shoot just 28 percent (9-for-32) in the third quarter, but it was the Yotes who tacked onto their lead by outpacing Humboldt 12-9. Dufresne and Jackson each had four points to lead San Bernardino.
The Lumberjacks made things interesting in the fourth by holding the Coyotes to just seven points, but could only muster 12 of their own as the hosts held on for the vital win.
Jackson finished as the game's leading scorer, notching 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, while recording seven rebounds. Dufresne was the only other Yote in double figures with 14 points, while finishing just a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Junior Samantha Henley (Ventura, Calif.) notched five points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the win.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will welcome Chico State to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
