SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team took down Stanislaus State University 70-58 Thursday evening in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at Coussoulis Arena.
With the victory, the Coyotes move to 13-12 overall and 11-9 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes dominated the opening quarter, closing the period on a 13-3 run to take a 19-8 lead after one. Senior Destiny Jackson (Hayward, Calif.) matched Stan State's point total on her own in the period, posting eight points to lead all players. CSUSB shot lights out from beyond the arc in the first, going 3-for-4 (75 percent), and 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) overall.
San Bernardino led by as many as 19 points early at 29-10 after back-to-back Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) fast break layups early in the second quarter, but Stanislaus closed the gap to 10 at 37-27 by halftime. Jaida Jackson and Destiny Jackson each posted a team-high of four points in the quarter for CSUSB, as six Coyotes found the scoresheet in the frame.
CSUSB outpaced Stanislaus State 18-12 in the third to take a commanding 55-39 lead to the fourth and final quarter. Jaida Jackson and junior Olivia Lee (Peoria, Ariz.) each posted five points to lead the Coyotes.
Stan State outscored the Coyotes 19-15 in the fourth, but the Warriors were able to climb out of the hole as the hosts secured the victory. Destiny Jackson scored six points in the fourth - all coming as a result of going 6-for-6 at the free throw line down the stretch - to lead all players.
Destiny Jackson was the contest's leading scorer, posting 22 points in the victory. Jaida Jackson was the only other Yote in double figures, posting 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Lee posted seven points, a game-high 11 boards, and three blocks in the win.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will face off against Cal State Monterey Bay for Senior Day at Coussoulis Arena on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. With a win, the Coyotes will clinch a spot in the CCAA Tournament, scheduled for Coussoulis Arena from March 7-9.
