Women's Basketball Topples San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team earned a crucial 72-64 victory over San Francisco State University Thursday evening in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.

With the victory, the Yotes improve to 12-11 overall on the season, and 10-8 in the CCAA. The win is Cal State San Bernardino's fifth in their last six games

San Francisco State got out to a fast start in the contest, opening the game on a 11-2 run in the first two and a half minutes of the game. The Coyotes climbed all the way back into the game, and trailed by just one point at 18-17 at the end of one quarter. Six different players recorded points in the first for San Bernardino, led by junior Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) with four points.

San Bernardino carried a 38-35 lead into the second half after outscoring the Gators 21-17 in the second quarter. The Yotes led by as many as 10 points with 3:07 remaining in the half after a Samantha Henley (Ventura, Calif.) three-pointer, before the Gators closed the gap to just three before the horn sounded.

The Coyotes shot just 4-for-13 (30.8 percent) from the floor and scored only 12 points in the third to fall behind 53-50 headed to the final 10 minutes. Dufresne and senior Destiny Jackson (Hayward, Calif.) each posted five points in the quarter.

The Gators maintained its narrow lead for the majority of the fourth quarter, going ahead by a score of 64-61 on a pair of free throws with 3:36 to play, but would not score again. The Yotes closed the game on an 11-0 to seal the come-from-behind victory. San Bernardino outscored San Francisco State 22-11 in the fourth, shooting 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from the floor. 

Three Coyotes finished the game in double figures, led by Dufresne, who posted an 18-point, 12-rebound doubleheader. Destiny Jackson scored 15 points, while junior Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) notched 13. Jaida Jackson also posted five steals, four rebounds, and four assists in the win.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will continue their road trip on Saturday at Cal State East Bay. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
