Game 1 - Azusa Pacific 10, Cal State San Bernardino 1

APU broke the ice in Tuesday's doubleheader, as Caitlin DeCanio belted a two-run home run to right field in the top of the first to put the visitors ahead 2-0 early.

CSUSB cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly to center field from junior Tereise Tosi (Garden Grove, Calif.), scoring sophomore Brooke Brazill (Clovis, Calif.) from third base.

The Cougars went ahead by three on DeCanio's second two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning, giving Azusa Pacific a 4-1 advantage.

APU would break the contest open in the top of the seventh by posting a six-spot to put the game away with a nine-run lead.

The Yotes scattered nine hits in the defeat, but stranded eight baserunners in the defeat. Tosi and junior Emilie Lapeña (Buena Park, Calif.) were the only two Coyotes to finish the game with a pair of hits.

Junior Samantha Vargas (Grand Terrace, Calif.) took the loss for the Yotes in the circle, allowing nine earned runs. She struck out seven over 6.2 innings pitched, and moves to 2-1 overall.

Game 2 - Azusa Pacific 3, Cal State San Bernardino 0

The Cougars took an early lead with an RBI double in the top of the first, and tacked on two more on a two-run home run over the centerfield fence by Mia Alvarez in the top of the third.

Neither team would score again for the balance of the game, but the Yotes made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth, as they brought the tying run to the plate with runners on second and third with two outs. APU pitcher Katie Korstrom got out of the jam by forcing a groundout to second base.

Junior Brooke Blackmon (Exeter, Calif.) went the distance for the Yotes in the circle, allowing three earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts. She took the loss, and moves to 1-1 on the season.

The Coyotes mustered just three hits in the defeat, with Shannon Galliano (San Mateo, Calif.), Tosi, and Mia Escujuri (Chino Hills, Calif.) recording singles in the shutout defeat.

Next up for the Yotes, they will start a four-game series with the first of two doubleheaders against CCAA foe San Francisco State at the CSUSB Softball Park on Friday. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.
