SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team took care of Chico State by a final of 3-0 Saturday evening in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at
Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-13, 25-12, and 25-23.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 12-9 overall on the season and 8-6 in CCAA play.
CSUSB was red hot in set number one, hitting .538 to take a 1-0 lead. The Yotes combined for 14 kills without an error on just 26 attacks in the one-sided set, led by six kills from senior
Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.). Sophomore
M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) had three assisted blocks and one solo block in the set as well to pace CSUSBÂ defensively.
The offense stayed dialed in in set number two, as the Yotes had only one attack error to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Robinson again had six kills, while junior
Jordan Cherniss (Colton, Calif.) had five without an error.
Despite CSUSB starting on a 6-0 run, the third set was the tightest of the three, featuring nine ties and four lead changes. After CSUSB's early 6-0 lead, Chico State responded with a 6-0 run of their own to knot the score. Chico would go on to lead by three on two occasions, but eventually CSUSB rallied to win the match on a kill from senior
Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.).
Robinson led all players with 18 kills in the victory, while Cherniss finished with 11 kills and only one error. The tandem combined to hit .400 in the win, while the team hit .382.

Abbey Clarke (Oswego, Ill.) led the Coyotes with 11 digs on defense, while
Jayden Chornomud (Murrieta, Calif.) and
Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) each had nine.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will head on the road to take on Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday. First serve from Seaside is slated for 5 p.m.
