SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team defeated San Francisco State 5-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action for Sunday afternoon at Premier Field.
With the victory, CSUSB moves to 3-1-4 overall on the season, and 1-0-1 in conference play. The Yotes remain unbeaten on their home field, moving to 2-0-3.
CSUSB scored three times in a 12-minute span in the first half to take command of the contest.
Junior Anthony Morales (Orange, Calif.) opened the scoring in the eighth minute, potting a left-footed effort for his first goal as a Coyote. Senior Hunter George (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned an assist on the play after cutting to the middle and finding a wide-open Morales on the left for the strike.
Morales found the net again just 4:15 later, stretching CSUSB's lead to a pair. Senior Martin Garcia (Santa Ana, Calif.) was credited with an assist on the play.
George netted a goal of his own in the 20th minute, poking a shot through the keeper's legs as he was being pulled down to extend the Coyote lead to three. Defender AJ Valdivia (Perris, Calif.) earned an assist on his long ball over the top that set up George's marker.
The Gators got one back in the 28th minute to cut their deficit to 3-1 heading into the half.
In the 78th minute, Isaac Sandoval found the net for San Francisco State to make things interesting, but Brian Castillo (North Hollywood, Calif.) buried an 83rd minute penalty kick to take all doubt out of a possible Gator comeback.
Castillo added one more in the 87th minute for insurance, finishing off a feed from junior Angel Rico (Pasadena, Calif.) for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Senior Aiden Hanes (Riverside, Calif.) earned the win in goal for the Coyotes, making three saves.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will travel south to Cal State San Marcos on Friday, October 11. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
