SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team fell to Stanislaus State 3-1 in CCAA action Thursday evening at Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-16, 25-18, 17-25, and 25-20.
With the defeat, Cal State San Bernardino drops to 11-9 overall on the season and 7-6 in CCAA play.
Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.), Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.), and Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) each had three first set kills, but the rest of the team combined for just one as Stanislaus State took the early 1-0 lead. The Coyotes hit just .100 in the set, compared to an average of .275 for the Warriors.
CSUSB's offense continued to struggle in set number two, as the Yotes hit -.021 to fall behind 2-0. The Coyotes had only nine kills, led by five from Robinson, while recording 10 attack errors in the set.
The Coyotes turned it around in set number three, rallying to force a fourth set with a 25-17 victory. Robinson had four kills without an error in the set, while Hoffmann and junior Jordan Cherniss each recorded three kills to help extend the contest.
The fourth set was the tightest of the four sets on the evening with six ties and two lead changes, but the Warriors were able to pull away and close out the victory by winning the set 25-20. Six different Coyotes had kills in the set, led by six from Robinson.
Robinson finished the evening with a match-high 18 kills in the defeat, while Hoffmann finished with 12 for Cal State San Bernardino. Robinson also led all players with 19 digs.
Sophomore M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) was a force for the Yotes at the net with six assisted blocks, while freshman setter Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) posted 23 assists.
Next up for the Yotes, they will wrap up their five-match homestand with a battle against Chico State on Saturday at Kim Cherniss Court. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
