Women's Volleyball Downs Dominguez Hills in Homecoming Game

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-1 in its annual Homecoming match Saturday evening in CCAA action at Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. Set scores were 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-17.

With the victory, Cal State San Bernardino improves to 11-8 overall on the season and 7-5 in CCAA play.

Senior Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) posted five first set kills without an error as CSUSB took the early 1-0 advantage. The Coyotes hit .333 in the set, while Dominguez Hills hit just .056.

CSUSB trailed 6-4 in the early stages of set number two, but rallied to claim their second 25-20 decision of the evening. Robinson posted five more kills in the set, while freshman setter Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) chipped in three kills on four attack attempts.

Cal State San Bernardino appeared to be on their way to a sweep, leading 17-13 approaching the end of set number three. Moments later, a setting error by the Toros gave CSUSB a 23-21 advantage, but the visitors ripped off four straight points to force a fourth set. Robinson and sophomore Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) led the way for CSUSB with three kills in the set.

The Yotes dropped the first point of set number four, but would not trail again, running away with the fourth to seal the 3-1 victory. CSUSB posted an astounding 17 kills without an error in the fourth set for an attack percentage of .630, led by eight kills from Robinson and five from senior Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.).

Robinson led all players with 21 kills in the victory, while also recording a team-high 11 digs. The Yotes shined defensively at the net, recording 12 total blocks. Sophomore Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) had six assisted blocks to lead the Coyotes, while Robinson, Pedersen, and sophomore M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.) each had five.

Next up for the Yotes, they will continue their homestand against Stanislaus State on Thursday at Kim Cherniss Court. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
