SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team defeated Cal State Los Angeles 1-0 Sunday afternoon in CCAA action at Premier Field.
With the win, CSUSB improves to 4-3-5 overall on the season, and 3-1-2 in conference play. The win also pushes Cal State San Bernardino into sole possession of second place in the CCAA standings.
Cal State San Bernardino found the back of the net in just the ninth minute. Junior Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season when she beat the outstretched arms of Cal State LA netminder Taesja Paopao, with an assist credited to senior Alissa Torres (Eastvale, Calif.).
CSUSB held off the Golden Eagle offense in the second half that desperately sought the equalizer. Cal State LA took 10 second half shots to just three for the Coyotes, but none found the back of the net, and the contest ended 1-0.
Senior goalkeeper Leila Peregrina (Chino, Calif.) finished the contest with four saves for the Coyotes to earn the win. It was her sixth shutout of the season, ranking second in the CCAA.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will head on the road to take on Stanislaus State on Friday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
