SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team dropped a CCAA contest 3-2 to San Francisco State Saturday evening at Don Nasser Family Plaza. Set scores were 22-25, 15-25, 25-18, 25-19, and 13-15.
With the defeat, Cal State San Bernardino drops to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in CCAA play.
Set number one was back-and-forth, and CSUSB took a 15-11 lead midway through the set. The Gators made a big rally however, hitting .351 in the set to claim a 25-22 victory. Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) posted six kills in the set, while Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) notched five kills.
The Yotes put away 16 kills in set two, but still could not down the Warriors, falling 25-22. Robinson looked sharp with eight kills in the set.
Cal State San Bernardino raced out to a big lead in the third set. Pedersen recorded six of her career-high 19 kills in the set.
CSUSB recorded a match high 18 kills in the fourth set and also recorded their best single-set hitting percentage of the set at .350, forcing a deciding fifth set.Â
In the fifth, the Coyotes jumped out to a 7-6 lead before San Francisco State went on an 8-2 run to take a 14-9 lead. Despite scoring four consecutive points to make things interesting, the Yotes were unable to complete the comeback.
Robinson finished as CSUSB's leader with 22 kills, while Pedersen notched 19. Each had double-doubles with 17 and 14 digs respectively. Freshman Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) posted 42 assists to go along with a team-high five blocks.
Despite the loss, CSUSB hit .269, their third-best in a single match this season.
Next up for the Yotes, they will head back home to San Bernardino to face San Francisco State again at Kim Cherniss Court. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
