#24 Women's Volleyball Gets Back on Track at Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The #24 California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team beat the Sonoma State Seawolves in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon at the Wolves' Den in straight sets. Set scores were 25-22, 29-27, and 25-17.

With the win, CSUSB is now 9-6 with a 5-3 record in CCAA play.

It was close throughout much of the first half of the first set until CSUSB pulled to a 15-9 lead with senior Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) scoring three consecutive points (two kills and a block). After a Sonoma State comeback, the Coyotes would hold on for a 25-22 set win, capped by a service ace from junior Abbey Clarke (Oswego, Ill.), whose six aces on the afternoon is the most by a CCAA player in a three-set match this season. As a team, CSUSB recorded a season-high 13 service aces and finished all three sets with a service ace.

The second set was just as tough as the first. Sonoma State recorded 15 kills in the set, the most of any single set by either team. The Seawolves made it tougher by tying the score up at 24 after the Coyotes were up 24-20. Ultimately, CSUSB were able to minimize errors to win the elongated set 29-27.

During the last set, the Coyotes looked their best, hitting .375, their best in the last four matches of any set. Sophomore Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) recorded two of her career-high eight kills in the final set.

Next up, CSUSB has a home-and-home series with their travel partner, San Francisco State. Thursday's match will be in San Francisco, while Saturday's match will be in San Bernardino at Kim Cherniss Court at Coussoulis Arena. First serve for both matches are set for 5 p.m.
